FRENCH FRIES RECIPE
- Soak potatoes in a large bowl of water for about 30 minutes. Pat
dry thoroughly with paper towels.
- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 275 degrees F (135
degrees C). Gently add the potatoes in the hot oil for about 5 minutes,
stirring and flipping the potatoes occasionally. Remove potatoes from oil
with a slotted spoon to drain on paper towel and to cool completely.
- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175
degrees C). Fry the potatoes again until golden brown, 5 to 6 minutes.
Blot with a paper towel. Sprinkle with salt to serve.
OR (ALTERNATE
RECIPE)
INGREDIENTS:
1. 2 1/2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled
2. 1 cup all-purpose flour
3. 1 teaspoon garlic salt
4. 1 teaspoon onion salt
5. 1 teaspoon salt
6. 1 teaspoon paprika
7. 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
8. 1/2 cup water, or as needed
STEPS TO COOK A
FRENCH FRIES:
- Slice potatoes into French fries, and place into cold water so they
won't turn brown while you prepare the oil.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the oil is
heating, sift the flour, garlic salt, onion salt, (regular) salt, and
paprika into a large bowl. Gradually stir in enough water so that the
mixture can be drizzled from a spoon.
- Dip potato slices into the batter one at a time, and place in the
hot oil so they are not touching at first. The fries must be placed into
the skillet one at a time, or they will clump together. Fry until golden
brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
